IMPROVING LISTENING SKILL BY LISTENING TO THE MUSIC

WHY WE USE SONG?

Research shows that music training can be of immense benefit to language development. Music listening—such as paying attention to pitch variation and timbre—can increase a child’s ability to distinguish specific sounds within words. The awareness that comes from listening to rhythm in music can increase awareness of the rhythmic structure of language, thus helping children learn to read fluently. -“The Relationship Between Music and Beginning Readers,” by Susannah J. Lamb and Andrew H. Gregory, Educational Psychology, Vol. 12 Issue 1, 1993, p. 19.

•Becuase song, especially english song, give us some benefits.

•Listening to the song will entertain us and also we can improve our listening skill by listen to the pronounciation, dialeg, different english style, and different voices.

•It also can give us some task by using the lyrics.

HOW TO DO IT?

•Most beginners get difficulty due to the lack of vocabularies, pronunciation and grammar.

- Select your favourite song. It helps practice the listening easily and you can anticipate the level of difficulty.

- Listen without reading the text/ dialogue once or twice. When you find difficulty in grasping the meaning, listen again while scrutinizing the text/ dialogue.

- Pay attention carefully to the pronunciation and intonation. If you want to improve your pronunciation, listen and repeat the song by pausing each sentence.

•After listening to the song, do the exercise and check your answer with the song’s lyric
- Keep listening and trying.

reveiw 2 : Movie Review

Movie Review :

THE CONJURING

The movie is based on true story that written by Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes. The genre of the movie is mystery and suspense, horror. The film was directed by James Wan and it also produced by Warner Bros. Picture. The duration is about 1 hour 52 minutes. The film has been released on theaters on July19,2013 and will realest in DVD on october22,2013. The Conjuring was awarded an R rating by the MPAA, who considered it to simply be too frightening for children.

The characters of the film are :

·         Vera Farmiga as Lorraine Warren : kind, wise and sensitive.

·         Patrick Wilson as Ed Warren : kind, warm, and responsible.

·         Lili Taylor as Carolyn Perron : kind, warm, and friendly.

·         Ron Livingston as Roger Perron : kind, responsible and brave.

·         Shanley Caswell as Andrea : kind, egoist and friendly.

·         Hayley McFarland as Nancy : kind and friendly.

·         Joey King as Christine :  kind and friendly.

·         Mackenzie Foy as Cindy : kind, friendly and brave.

   The film is about Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga) that work as paranormal, who were called to help people that felt something terrorized them like black shadows, an evil, ghost, etc. Ed is the clergyman and his wife, has a six senses. In the first scene, the film shows about Annabelle-scary doll- that terrorized some students in the apartment. Mr. and Mrs. Warren solved their problem by keeping the doll in the room that they prepared for save mystic thing that had been cursed.

            In 1971 the Perron family moved into new house in Harrisville, Rhode Island. They have 5 daughters.their new house is very creepy. They feel strange things happen when they are living there.Mrs. Perron have bruised in her legs after she woke up. The clock in that house always stop at 3.07 o’clock. The house have the warehouse that full of old-fashioned thing. The strange things started happen in their house, their dog, Sadie was died and some birds were also died unexpectedly when they were flying through their house. Their daughters also experience mysterious things happen in the house.. Cindy, is doing sleep walking to Andrea’s room and collided her head into the old case. Actually before she did it, she found a music box under the big old tree near the lake. She became strange after she found the music box. She said that she had a new friend, Rorry from the music box.

. Day after day, the bruised in Mrs. Perron’s bodies was in serious condition. To solve their problem, they invited Mr. And Mrs. Warren to their house. Mrs. Warren checked around the house and came to the lake and she saw something strange. She saw someone was hanging in the old tree. They decided to help them to drive away the ghost. They set their ghost hunted equipments and identified all part of the house. They tried to communicate with the ghost. In the next night, Cindy did sleep walking again. It was strange, because there was someone that gave a command to Cindy to do that. Cindy was lost after she came in to the case. They were very confusing until they found a secret ways behind the case. Cindy said that the ways is used by Rorry when he was afraid. Mrs. Warren went into the secret ways and found a rope, but she flew down. In the base floor, she met a ghost of an old lady that killed her child. She also know who cause the bruised in Mrs. Perron.

The ghost was not only disturbed the daughters of Perron family but also the Warren’s daughter. The ghost tried to kill Judy, warren’s daughter. Mrs. Perron was possessing by the ghost to kill her children, so she came to her house with Christine and April. Mrs. Perron attacked everyone that tried to help her. April was missing. Mrs. Perron finds her and attacks April that hiding in the secret ways behind the case. They tried many ways to made Mrs. Perron conscious. Mrs. Warren tried to convince her about her beautiful memories about her family. Mrs. Perron remembers it and finally she conscious. The ghosts that disturb them, actually the soul of the people that lived in the house before Perron’s family come were Batscyba and Jedson. They were accused doing black magic and Mr. Jedson hang himself in the old tree. They had a baby named Rorry, but they just sacrificed him when he was 7 years old by burning him. After that she went to the quay and cursed to the ghost and cursed anyone who tried to take their land and hang herself.

As a horror film, this film contains something that surprising and unexpected. The film started by the terror and continued by the game “hide and seek” and become danger situation. The film seems with film insidious. If we compare it, we know that both of the film is about chasing away the ghost from the house or people life. If we contrast it, we know that in Conjuring the ghost terrors happen in all of the family that live in the house, but in Insidious, the ghost just terrors the man that can go across a normal world into ghost world and get lose.

In my opinion, I think that conjuring is interesting horror film. It can make us scream and surprise about what happen in the next. It also makes our heart bet so fast when the ghost appears unexpectedly, but I still do not understand why the film shows about Annabelle? What is the relationship between Annabelle and the plot? I think maybe that is the weaknesses, the film do not shows clearly about Annabelle. 

The moral value from this film is: thinking before doing something. We must know about the risky or the effect if we will take or do something.

The book explain about phonology. Phonology is the study of how the sounds are produced. This book explain about the specific ways to know how the sounds are produced.in this book is also explain about the differentiate between phonology and phonetic. It also shows about the differentiate in Indonesians pronunciation with English pronunciation.

Phonology and phonetic are different. Especially in the focus of the study. In phonology we talk about how the sounds are release and arranged when used in the actual speech, but phonetic focus on the formation, production,and perception of the sounds. In phonology, will explain about the speech mechanism. It is about the way how we produce the sounds. We know the part of our oral that use for speech.

Phonology also talk about many consonants that use in any language that have different features. in this book also classification about the sounds into the sate of the glottis. Manner of the articulation, and also about the place. After know about that the students can analyze the differentiate between each consonants. In English have 24 consonants, but in this book will explain about some consonants that use in another language. Besides that this book also explains about the production of the English vowels and also talk about the problem in describing the English vowels.

In this book also explain about  the distinctive feature of the consonants and the vowels. Instead it talk about the distinctive feature of the word. Beside that it also talk about the clusters, diphthongs, and syllable structure. Stress and intonation are also explained in this book. It is explained more specific.

This book is good for students to learn about phonology. The materials or the lesson on this book are explained clearly. It analyzes the phonology more specific and complete by the example. The book also contains with the picture, so the students will more understand when they learn about the lesson. Especially about the speech mechanism and also about the consonants and the vowels. Because to understand it, students need to know about the part of the place of the oral cavity.

The book have good materials, but there are some part of the book that need more information and classification. In this book, especially in the part that study about consonants, students need some classification. Maybe the writer can show it in some table, so the students will more understand.

This book is good and it is very important for students to have this book as their references book. I think this book can be the good book for the students to get more knowledge and more understand with the the sounds produce in English. It also good for students to make them easier when they learn about phonology.

LEARNING BY MISTAKES

Learning by the mistake. That is the important point in my writing 2. After several weeks I studied with Mrs. Lina, who is one of my lecturers in writing 2, tough new method in writing. I got many things about how to produce good writing. I learned many thing that help me understood about how to write the best essay. Writing is not about write anything, but you also have to know how to develop it. It is not easy, however, you need some process to get the best result. Even though you have many ideas in your mind, but you did not know how to develop it and made it into story or essay it will become nothing. The things that I enjoyed in writing 2 is about the process to produce good essay in Narrative, discussion, review and also how to write my experiences in writing 1.

Writing about my experiences  in writing 1 was the first assignment that Mrs. Lina gave to us. First, I tried to write about my experiences in 2-3 small paragraph. At that time i was stuck and could not develop any ideas. I just wrote what I have though without carrying about the grammar or the word arragement until Mrs. Lina divided us into some group. The group consists of four students. As the member of the group we have to revision our friends essay. It is interesting for me. We worked as a teacher that correction the mistakes that our students do. I, personality must be carefull to correc my friends essays, because it also can help them to make the best one from  knowing the mistakes that they did. I very like if someone pointed out my mistakes, so i can change it into the better one. Actually it is the best process to produce good essay.

The second assignment is to write about narrative essay. First time i tried to retell about the story of Cinderella part 2.  I did not thing about any ideas. I thought that it will  be fine. Until the day when we collected our assignment, i realized that just some of the students  that retell a story. A lot of students were writing about their unforgettable experiences or about fiction. I started to think why I did not make the story based on my own ideas. I like imagination, why did not I develop it. Like the first assignment we must revision our essay. In this chance I tried to change my narrative essay into my own story. It is difficult for me to develop my ideas, until i tried to write about all of my unforgettable experiences and choose the best experience that i ever had. I wrote about my sadness confession that i did when i was in senior high school. After i finished my story, i copied many of them and i gave it to my friends in group and also the other friends in my class. From the revision, I could get the better ones.

The third assignment was about discussion essay. I think it is the best essay i have ever made. It passed several processes that very amazing. In discussion essay, we must explain about the hot issue that happened recently. First, we made the outline about the topic that we will develop. Brainstorming is the difficult part. I felt confuse about what will I do until my friend decided to make 2 group as the pros and the contras. We discussed about our topic like in debate contest. It was very helpful because we could make the outline more easier..  I choosed Issue about import fruit in Indonesia. After that I looked for the fact about the issue that I will explain, why i did that, because to write discussion text we need some fact to force our opinion. After finished write the essay. I copied to all of my friends in the class, so they could revise them. More people that correct our essay, it will easier for us to correct our mistakes and changed it into the better ones. After the second revision it continued to the third revision to make the final project.

The surprising thing was we must uploaded our story to the blog. It means that our story could be read by all people that use internet. Actually it is interesting, but I also felt un confidence about it. I felt that my story was not good enough, but I must believe that nothing perfect in this world. I must take the risky to get the best. I am very happy when my friends visited my blog and leave their  comment. It very helped me.

Actually writing 2 was interesting subjects in my third semester, but i have to say that to write something we need enough time. I believe that if we have more time in writing 2 it will easier and we more creative to create the new ideas. I am very thankful to Mrs. Lina that prepare the time for us to study writing even though she is pregnant, she still be able to come to teach us. The knowledge that she shared to us is very valuable. I hope we will meet again in another time. Thank you very much.
